Shaq D has recently joined the Mi-Soul family and his Wednesday night Slow Jams show, ‘The Love Shaq’, is being spoken about in all quarters of the globe from, London England to Sydney Australia.
As the well known saying goes “The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree”, you might as well say that Shaq D’s love of music was formed from conception as his Dad is a DJ and music is a staple part of his life. As far back as he can remember he has always been around music. At home he grew up mainly on Soul and Reggae music which form the backbone of his musical tastes.
A discerning vinyl collector from the age of 12 and a presence to be reckoned with in the DJ booth & Dance for the past 26 years, Shaq D’s lifelong love affair with music has taken him all over the UK, Europe and to Europe’s Largest Street Party, The Notting Hill Carnival. One of his USP’s is that he can DJ and host simultaneously. Shaq D’s first big break into club nights came with his sound Black Avenue in the 90’s at London’s premier club night Silk City. To date one of his biggest achievements was being part of an event which lasted over 5 years which called Foolin’ Around which was hosted at many clubs throughout London. From that Shaq D now hosts his own night called W.H.A.T!!! This simply stands for We Have Amazing Times!!! Where ever you see these letters you know that it will be a stellar occasion.
He would classify himself as a gifted generalist covering contemporary RnB, 80s Soul, Reggae, Funky House, Revival, Rare Groove, Hip-Hop, Garage, Jungle, and Ragga/Old Time Bashment amongst others when he plays out.
Shaq D personifies Mi-Soul Radio’s community spirited ethos. He routinely plays at fundraisers for several organisations including the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust and Meningitis Trust. Hyping the night and taking the crowd with him are the reasons he loves deejaying as much as he does.
